Justin Rose captured his first major championship on Sunday with remarkable calmness and three pure shots on the punishing closing holes at Merion. A total score of +1 was good enough to become the first Englishman in 43 years to win America's national championship. Phil Mickelson of USA shot a +4 on the final round of the US$ 8 million event to end tied 2nd at +3.

Spain's Sergio Garcia having had the proverbial upper hand against Tiger Woods should have quit while he was ahead. He was accusing Woods of not showing sportsmanship when the duo was paired together during the PLAYERS Championship earlier this month.

Australian Wade Ormsby claimed a nerve-jangling maiden Asian Tour title at the US$ 300,000 event to deny Thai veteran Boonchu Ruangkit from a historic victory at the Delhi Golf Club on Sunday. Ormsby ended the tournament at -9, one shot ahead of 2nd-placed Ruangkit. Shiv Kapur of India finished 4th at -6.
