The Myth of Cheaper Golf equipment from abroad Posted By Dinesh Thakur at 06 May 2011

It is mostly observed that when a golfer is researching on buying a new golf equipment, he will try different brands and series. And then compare the prices on the Internet, or will discuss with his golfing friends on the schemes/ costs in neighbouring countries.

In the last 6 months or so, the products available in India directly through companies like Taylormade/ Callaway (Brands which have their whole setup in India) .... have kept the pricing in line with countries like Thailand. Infact recently Lokesh, who is a regular golfer at Qutab Golf Course delayed his purchase of R11 driver only to check the costs in Bangkok. To his surprise, the pricing was almost similar. As per him, the hassle of carrying the driver back, questioned by the customs and also NO guarantee at the end of it made him decide otherwise.

However, there are times when equipment from the USA becomes cheaper than our region. This happens only when the series are older than 1 year of launch. This is called off-season rates. At the same time.... the brands in India also launch attractive schemes which worth considering. So next time my friends.... your purchase of new equipment across 7 seas may not be the best decission after all!... :-)

Re:The Myth of Cheaper Golf equipment from abroad

In this day and age almost all golf equipment is manufactured in china purely for cost reasons. An original TM or any other oem product would be the same wherever it was made. The fakes are the problem. Those have no quality control.

Products over a year or max 2 old are available for a bargain in the US. 500 dollar drivers are available for a 100 dollars, but those same prices are not available in India. Find someone who can bring you one or two clubs and you will really save a fortune. Bringing a full set is where customs start to get fussy because they want to get bribed for looking the other way.

Be very careful when buying online golf equipment, specially if the prices are unbelievably low. You will find most of them Made-in-China (read FAKE). Go to the details page, read every line, look at the picture with magnifying glass and somewhere it will mentioned that the item has originated from China.

I totally agree with you as far as the latest equipment is concerned. But there is a fantastic difference in pricing the moment u want to buy just the previous/last yrs model specially if u buy it online in US. I had ordered quite a few sets through our US colleagues when i was in UN n the rates were really amazing. BUT the best part is almost all of the equipment we got from US was mfr in china
