After Arshvant Srivastava, here’s another Golf prodigy who’s capturing the attention of the Golfing world with her success. Meet 8-year-old Asara Sawhney, who showcased oodles of grit to win the US Kids Golf European Championships 2018 in the girls’ category.
In an exclusive interaction with 4moles.com, proud grandfather Commodore SK Sawhney revealed the interesting details. “Both Asara and American Golf prodigy Anita Lumpongpoung had 116 strokes. On the final day, there was a playoff between the two. While Anita did it in five strokes, Asara took just 4 strokes to win the exciting playoff. We are thrilled to have the European Golf champion in the family making all of us and the country proud,” enthuses Commodore Sawhney.
There’s more to come for the young athlete. With this victory, she will represent India at the Junior World Championship at Pinehurst, USA later this year.
Those who have watched Asara closely vouch for her on-course composure, a key aspect that, together with her prodigious talent, makes her a very special prospect.
The Golf wonder kid has been playing the sport since she was four and a half years old and it was her grandfather who served as her inspiration to take up Golf. “Golf runs in my family as we all, including my wife, my son Akshay and daughter-in-law Richa, have a passion for the game. So when Asara wanted to play the sport, I told her that you’re too small. Now I realise why she yearned to play the game so much,” shares the proud grandfather with a smile.
Interestingly, Asara has got a talent scholarship from Delhi Golf Course. Reveals Commodore Sawhney, “Her parents are the driving force and take out a lot of time to travel and be with her at several tournaments.”
It’s really amazing to see young and talented kids from India going great guns in the global Golf circuit.
