The young golfer from Panchkula recently grabbed the spotlight after she finished tied 11th at the Teen World Championship 2018 which was held at Longleaf Golf & Family Club, Southern Pines, United States.
While dazzling Golfers like Shubhankar Sharma are breaking barriers and tearing down stereotypes, a stream of young talent is slowly etching names in the higher echelons of Golf. The latest in the line of trailblazing youngsters in the world of Golf is 13-year-old Hunar Mittal, who’s currently wowing everyone with her impressive track record.
The young golfer from Panchkula recently grabbed the spotlight after she finished tied 11th at the Teen World Championship 2018 which was held at Longleaf Golf & Family Club, Southern Pines, United States. Earlier, Hunar finished at the fifth spot in the IJGA World Stars of Junior Golf Championship played at Paiute Golf Club in Las Vegas, USA, last week.
Thirteen years old maybe she, but Hunar Mittal has played more than 120 Golf tournaments, out of which nine were on the global scale. No wonder, she has the grit and the potential to be a breakout star and that explains why she played her recent tournaments without a caddy.
In a brief interaction with 4moles.com, proud father Sachin Mittal, shares, “She has grown up watching Golf legends like Inbee Park and Michelle Wie. Truly inspired by them, she took to Golf when she was just 5 years old.”
He added, “At Las Vegas, She shot 73-73-76 in the three-day tournament. It was not easy to play continuously two practice rounds and three rounds of the golf tournament on this golf course which is on the desert of Las Vegas. She played on fast greens with a speed of 11.5 with dry hot summer in 42 degrees along with 14 km/hr wind and 25% humidity.
Mittal had earlier finished tied-16th in the category 13-14 years in the IMG Academy Junior World Championship held in San Diego, California, USA, from July 11 to July 13. In Las Vegas, Mittal carded a score of six-over-22 while Pimkwan Chookaew of Thailand claimed the title with a score of eight-under-208 in the tournament played from July 17 to July 19.
In San Diego, the youngster had carded a score of five-over-221 to claim the tied 16th spot with S Ngamkham of Thailand and Y Tai of Singapore in the tournament played at the Country Club of Rancho Bernando.
The youngster became the top-ranked golfer in U-9 category in the Indian Golf Union Feeder Tour. She claimed the second spot in U-10 category in IGU Feeder Tour in 2015. This year saw Mittal finishing fifth in category B in the IGU Southern India Ladies and Junior Girls Championships played at Clover Greens Golf Course, Hosur, Tamil Nadu, in April. The youngster then played in Orlando, USA, in May before playing in San Diego.
Clearly, Hunar is on the fast track to success at a very young age. We wish she keeps the momentum going forward.
