In an exciting final round at the Hero Women's Indian Open, Aline Krauter from Germany emerged victorious, clinching her maiden Ladies European Tour title. Going into the fourth round with a two-shot lead, Krauter faced a strong challenge from fellow rookie Sara Kjellker from Sweden, but ultimately secured her win at the DLF Golf and Country Club.
Aline Krauter
Krauter's consistent performance throughout the tournament, with rounds of 69-68-68-68, led to a total score of 15-under 273. Kjellker finished in the second position with a score of 10-under (73-66-68-71). Notably, both Krauter and Kjellker are in their rookie year on the Ladies European Tour, with Krauter also being a rookie on the LPGA.
Krauter's victory marked the second consecutive year with a German winner at the Hero Women's Indian Open, following Olivia Cowan's win the previous year. Marcel Siem, another German golfer, had also claimed victory at the men's Hero Indian Open earlier in the year at the same course, solidifying the connection between German players and the Indian course.
Diksha Dagar
Diksha Dagar, who had the opportunity to move to the top of the Order of Merit with a win or a solo second-place finish, gave her best effort. She had a strong front nine, with five birdies and only two bogeys. However, the back nine didn't yield the birdie putts she needed, resulting in a final score of 8-under 280 and a third-place finish. This performance moved Diksha to second place in the Order of Merit, with a chance to become the first Indian to win the prestigious title.
The tournament also saw strong performances from other Indian players, with amateur Avani Prashanth tying for fifth place with Sara Kouskova of the Czech Republic, and Gaurika Bishnoi finishing tied for eighth place with Finland's Noora Komulainen.
Aline Krauter, speaking of her win, expressed her excitement and gratitude for the support she received during the tournament. She credited her improved mindset, thanks to working with a mental coach, as a key factor in her success. She also mentioned her strong ball striking as a critical aspect of her performance.
Diksha Dagar, reflecting on her third-place finish, thanked her sponsors, supporters, and volunteers, and expressed her intention to continue improving her game, including her diet and skills.
Avani Prashanth
Amateur winner Avani Prashanth expressed her enjoyment of the tournament and her plans to play the LET Q-School later in the year.
Overall, ten Indian players made the cut, with three of them finishing in the top ten, demonstrating the strength of Indian golf talent on the international stage.
Aline Krauter's impressive performance and victory at the Hero Women's Indian Open mark a significant moment in her career and the tournament's history, cementing her status as a rising star in women's golf.
