Rory McIlroy wins the Dubai Desert Classic 2023 for the third time!

DUBAI DESERT CLASSIC 2023

 

 

 

 

DAY 1

 

 

Swedish amateur star Ludvig Aberg sizzled at the finish of the first round when he stood at the top of the leaderboard with four birdies in the front nine and the other four in the back nine to take a lead in the Dubai Desert Classic in Majlis Course.

 

Tied with him was England’s Ian Poulter, who has 12 DP wins till date, shot 7-under (65) with two consecutive birdies on 3rd and 4th, then on 9th and 10th , along with three more birdies on the back nine.


Spanish golfer Angel Hidalgo carded 6-under (66) with five birdies in the front nine. This 25 year old golfer has still not opened his account for any DP win till now. Tied 3rd Louis De Jager , Patrick Reed , Rory McIlroy with Angel Hidalgo. 

 

 

 


Another England’s player Richard Bland has carded 5-under (67) to tie at the seventh along with french Perez Victor who had a bogey free first round in this prestigious tournament in Dubai. 

 

Belgium Star Thomas PIETERS, 31 with a total of 6 DP wins sparkled with four birdies and one bogey in the front nine by the end of first round of the event. 


Failing to have a bogey free round, Spanish Adri Arnaus carded five-under with one bogey in the front nine on 1st and another in the back nine on 11th.

 

 

DAY 2

 

 

Thomas Pieters stood on the top of the leaderboard by the end of the second day of the tournament by hitting a bogey round on the back nine. Tied on the first position, Michael Thorbjornsen from US and Richard Bland from England hit 10-under of total by the end of the second round. Michael had a superb eagle shot on 18th by the end of second round. 

 


Hitting 9-under in the second round, Adri Arnaus from Spain was at par on the back nine of this round with only one birdie on the 18th. Tied with Pieters, stood Connor Syme with a bogey free round. Sweden star Marcus Kinhult, who had won one time on DP World Tour. He had an eagle on 17th in the second round. 

 

 


Austria’s player Bernd Wiesberger, hitting 5-under in the second round tied with the famous Rory  McIlroy, Patrick Reed, Matt Rolace and four others by the end of the second round. World No 1 Rory McIlroy had a two-undner hit on the course by the end of the second round. All at Par excluding 3rd with a birdie, 10th with a bogey and an eagle shot on 13th. 


England’s Ian Poulter, tied on 7th on the leaderboard of the Dubai Desert Classic 2023 also had an eagle swing on the 13th. The only Indian player in the tournament, Shubhankar Sharma was somewhere very down in the leaderboard.

The Indian Charmer had a score of (69) with a bogey free second round on the back nine. 

 

 

DAY 3

 

 

Now, its world no. 1 one the top of the leaderboard , Rory McIlroy who hit (65). The front nine of the round had no bogey which made him stand solo at the top. England’s Callum Shinkwin had hit 5-under with a total score of 12-under by the end of the third round. A birdie on 2nd and a bogey on the 5th in the front nine was hit by the English player. 


Tied on 2nd was another England’s golfer Dan Bradbury 4-under(68) with a bogey free back nine of the third round. Seven players tied on 4th with a total score of 11-under by the end of the third round.

French golfer, Victor Perez, who had 3 DP world wins till date had an amazing round 3 when he got 6-under(66) by the end of third round in the prestigious tournament at Dubai Desert Classic.

 

With the score of 5-under(66), South Africa’s Shaun Norris had two bogeys in the third round on 9th and 16th. Ian Poulter, with no bogey in the back nine of the third round, had hit 3-under(69). Unfortunately, Indian star Shubhankar Sharma had not made the cut. 

 

 

DAY 4

 

 

Rory McIlroy won the Dubai Desert Classic tournament title for the third time and matched the record of South African legend Ernie Els. Audience noticed ‘Rory-mani’ in the tournament with keen interest. He successfully parred the first eight holes in his final round with a score of 4-under (68).

 

He managed to produced two brilliant birdie runs to help take a commanding three-shot lead into the final round of the Hero Dubai Desert Classic. He took home a prize money of $1,530,000. 

 

"I felt like the good golf came in sort of two bursts today," McIlroy said. "Then the rest of it, it was okay. I held it together. I still don't feel quite in control of my game, but today was much better than yesterday."

One behind stood Patrick Reed who got 5-under(67) had a bogey free front nine in final round. He got one great eagle on the 10th and one bogey on the 16th. Patrick is a three time winner on the DP world Tour and in this tournament he had a cummulative score of 18-under for all the four rounds taking home a purse amount of $990,000

 

"It was an unfortunate break there, but at the end of the day, I felt like I rebounded really well," Reed said. "I just need to tighten it up a little bit and just make a couple more putts. The good thing is I played the par-fives a little better today."

 

 

The second runner-up was Australia's Lucas Herbert who went into the final round with a two-under score in the third round and carried it to 6-under (66) in the forth round. 

 

finished with the position of solo 4th in the tournament stood England's Callum Shinkwin. The 29 year old golfer had a bogey free back nine of the tournament in the Dubai, whereas as far as the front nine is considered of the final, the start was not appreciated as he had three bogeys there. 

 

One of the most talented golfers , who has 12 DP wins till date was always the shinning star who had his name in the top 10 of the leaderboard in the Dubai Desert Classic 2023 stood at the sixth position on the final day, although he finished with a disastrous double bogey on the 18th. He carried a total score of 2-under(70).
