Kartik Singh, a 13-year-old golf prodigy from India, has etched his name in the annals of golfing history by becoming the youngest player ever to make the cut at the prestigious Asia Golf Amateur Championship. Although Singh's dreams of clinching a historic victory were dashed following a challenging round, his remarkable accomplishment serves as a testament to his burgeoning talent.

Kartik Singh, India's Golf Sensation at Asia Golf Amateur Championship

Kartik commenced the tournament with an initial round, carding a seven-over-par 78, and followed it up with a respectable 72 at the demanding course of the Royal Melbourne Golf Club. At just 13 years, nine months, and 22 days old, he achieved a significant milestone by being the youngest player to make the weekend since China's Guan Tianlang accomplished the same feat at the age of 14 in 2012.

Guan Tianlang, for context, went on to win the tournament and further solidified his reputation by making the cut at the 2013 Masters, becoming the youngest player in PGA Tour history to do so.

The winner of the annual Asia-Pacific championship is granted coveted invitations to both the Augusta and the Open Championship. However, Singh won't be following in Guan's footsteps this time, as his round of 81 left him trailing 21 shots behind China's Zheng Sampson-Yunhe. Zheng's remarkable 65 on Saturday propelled him to a commanding four-stroke lead heading into the final day.

Reflecting on his remarkable journey, Singh humbly remarked, "I came to the tournament with no expectations. I had heard so much about it, I just wanted to gain the experience. But if there was a goal, it was to make the cut, and I am ecstatic that I've managed to achieve that."

Notably, the tournament also featured another young talent, 14-year-old Andrew Yap from Malaysia. However, Yap fell short of the cut, contrasting with Singh's historic accomplishment on the golfing stage.
