Sachin Baisoya from Delhi displayed a flawless performance in the final round, scoring an impressive five-under 67 to secure victory at the Jeev Milkha Singh Invitational Tournament, which boasted a prize purse of Rs 1.5 crore. Baisoya, who started the day as the second-placed golfer, three strokes behind the leader, showcased his skills with three birdies and an eagle in the fourth round, concluding the tournament with a total score of 16-under 272.
The 28-year-old Sachin Baisoya celebrated his second career title and his second win of the season, earning a winner's cheque of Rs 22,50,000. This victory propelled him from third to second place in the PGTI Ranking, with season earnings of Rs 63,46,666. On the PGTI Ranking, Baisoya is now closely trailing his good friend Om Prakash, the current leader, by nearly Rs 21 lakh.
Chandigarh's Abhijit Singh Chadha also put on a remarkable performance, carding an error-free 67 in the final round to secure a tied second-place finish at 15-under 273, making him the highest-placed local golfer. Meanwhile, Bangladesh's Jamal Hossain, who led the tournament by three shots going into the final round, fell one spot and ended up as the joint runner-up with Chadha at 15-under 273.
Golfer Sachin Baisoya
Sachin Baisoya exhibited exceptional ball-striking and putting throughout the day, securing birdies on the third, fifth, and ninth holes, with the last two birdies coming from impressive 12 to 15-foot putts. However, the turning point came when Baisoya eagled the 13th hole with a 25-foot putt, allowing him to take the lead, and he maintained his advantage from there on.
Reflecting on his performance, Baisoya stated, "At the start of the day, I just told myself to focus, play my own game and not get too aggressive, and the birdies will come themselves, helping me erase the lead. That's exactly what happened. Then, after the eagle on the 13th, I was in a very relaxed frame of mind. I made some great up-and-downs throughout the day and played my best shot of the day on the 16th where I hooked it around a tree and almost made the green to save par. I took inspiration from my win at the Tollygunge Club earlier this year. The win is a huge confidence-booster for me, and this season is turning out to be very special."
Rahil Gangjee, a three-time international winner, also had a strong final round, carding a 67, which was the lowest score of the day, securing fourth place with a total of 14-under 274. Angad Cheema, another Chandigarh-based professional, finished in seventh place with a score of 10-under 278.
Om Prakash Chouhan, the leader in the PGTI Ranking, finished tied for eighth place at nine-under 279 after a round of 68. The tournament's host and Indian golf legend, Jeev Milkha Singh, concluded the week in a tie for 37th place with a score of one-under 287.
Chandigarh's K Raghav Bhandari stood out as the best-performing amateur, securing 43rd place with a score of one-over 289.
