The Royal Trial of India: A new chapter in Indian golf.
New Delhi: GRPL - The Royal Trial of India, has been named Sports League of the Year 2026, recognising the league's vision and early execution in creating a new format for golf that brings together cities, teams, golfers, technology, media, brands and community.
The recognition comes midway through Season 1, with three league events already completed and the second half of the season now underway.
GRPL was created around a simple question: What if good amateur and professional golfers could do more than play golf?
What if golfers across genders and generations could compete together, represent their cities with purpose, and become part of a larger sporting story?
That thinking led to The Royal Trial of India, a story-led sports property built around the culture, heritage and identity of India. The concept aims to give each city an identity and give golfers something beyond an individual score to play for.
The city is not just where you play. It is what you play for.
GRPL has been structured as a city-based, franchise-driven home-and-away golf league, taking the competition across six cities before culminating in an international finale with a INR 1 crore prize pool.
The format brings together professional and amateur golfers, team owners, captains, brands and audiences within a single season-long property.
Rather than treating every event as an isolated tournament, GRPL has built an overarching narrative where each city and team becomes part of the larger season.
The Royal Trial of India is designed to make golf more than a competition on the course. It gives the sport a storyline, city identity and a reason for audiences to remain engaged throughout the season.
GRPL did not begin from zero.

Built on more than two decades of golf experience and a community of 150,000+ registered golfers.
The league builds on more than two decades of experience from 4moles.com, supported by a community of more than 150,000 registered golfers and an established ecosystem spanning golf media, technology, events and industry relationships.
This foundation has allowed GRPL to build a sports property by bringing an existing golf community together with a new franchise-based competitive format.
The early performance of the league has also demonstrated the potential of the model.
In less than three months, GRPL generated:
The league's impact extends beyond the golf course, with digital content, live scoring and Golf Predicta creating additional points of engagement for golfers and audiences. The official Season 1 impact report records 3.1 million-plus digital views, 275,000-plus accounts reached and 50,906 Live Scoring and Golf Predicta views for May to July 2026.
GRPL's previous league events have also incorporated live entertainment, networking, fan engagement, Golf Predicta and other experiences, reinforcing its positioning as an immersive sporting and lifestyle property rather than a conventional golf tournament.
For brands, GRPL offers an opportunity to participate in a sports property that combines visibility, engagement and ROI across multiple cities and multiple touchpoints throughout the season.

GRPL Team Captains with the trophy
For team owners, the franchise model provides an opportunity to become part of a growing sports ecosystem built around city identity, competition, community and long-term engagement.
The league has also previously positioned team ownership around equity participation and long-term value creation, moving beyond the traditional model of ownership based primarily on short-term branding and visibility.
As GRPL grows, sporting credibility remains central to the property - Fair competition. Transparency. These principles form an important part of the league's foundation because credibility is not something that can simply be added after success. It has to be built into the competition from the beginning.
The Sports League of the Year 2026 recognition arrives at a significant point in GRPL Season 1.
Three events have already been completed, with the league now moving into its second half. The next leg will take place at Classic Golf and Country Club, Gurugram, followed by Ahmedabad, Delhi and the international finale.
The Bengaluru leg marked the halfway stage of The Royal Trial of India, with the race for the inaugural GRPL championship continuing across the remaining legs.
The recognition therefore represents not an ending, but an early validation of the direction GRPL has taken.
The award is one moment. The Royal Trial of India is the story.

GRPL receives the Sports League of the Year 2026 recognition.
And with Season 1 only halfway through, GRPL's journey is just beginning.
