G Kamala Vardhana Rao
G Kamala Vardhana Rao, a Kerala cadre IAS officer (1990 batch) and an avid golfer has been appointed as the new Director-General (Tourism), Ministry of Tourism. In 2019, Rao was appointed as Chairman and Managing Director of the India Tourism Development Corporation, a hospitality, retail and education company owned by the Government of India.
Rao has been appointed with an additional charge to hold the office of DG Tourism till the appointment of a regular functionary or until further notice from the ministry, whichever is earlier.
While this seems like everyday news, the appointment of Rao can be an opportunity for golf tourism in India as he hits the fairways almost regularly at the Delhi Golf Club since 2019. This is a welcome development for the prospects of golf tourism development in India where the Ministry of Tourism plays a major role.
