DAY 1

December 17th 2010, New Delhi: Chiragh Kumar moved into the lead with a four under 68 in round three of the LG Masters of PGTI being played at the Delhi Golf Club. Chiragh’s total now reads 10 under 206 and he is one shot ahead of Lucknow’s Sanjay Kumar who fired a two under 70 on Friday.

Chiragh Kumar (69-69-68), whose home course is the Air Force Golf Club in Delhi, made a move to the top of the leaderboard with some top-class putting on the front nine. He sank birdie putts from 25 and 30 feet on the fifth and seventh respectively. A sand-wedge shot to one foot earned Chiragh a birdie on the eighth. He closed the day with his fourth birdie of the day on the 18th.

Chiragh Kumar
“I can’t complain as I did not make a bogey today. A bogey-free round especially at the DGC is always good news. I sank some really long putts and my hitting was excellent. I just stuck to a certain game-plan and kept it in play today. I play a lot of golf at the DGC and familiarity with a particular course definitely helps when one is in two minds about how to play a certain shot,” said Chiragh, who is currently 18th on the Rolex Rankings with one win and six other top-10s in the 2010 Aircel PGTI season.

He added, “I don’t have a number in mind for the final round as I have no expectations. I just want to stick to the basics and keep it simple.”

Sanjay Kumar (66-71-70) made four birdies against two bogeys to end the day one stroke off the pace. He set up a birdie on the first with a good chip from the edge that ended up two feet short of the pin. Sanjay converted putts from eight to 12 feet for his other birdies on the 10th, 11th and 17th. He bogeyed the fourth and 12th as a result of two three-putts.

Sanjay said, “I’m hitting it good but need to improve on my putting in the final round. I made two three-putts today and cannot afford to make such mistakes in the final round.”

Shankar Das and Shamim Khan are in tied third at seven under 209. While Shankar posted an even par 72 on Friday, Shamim came up with a one under 71.

Gaganjeet Bhullar lies ninth at even par 216 and defending champion Ashok Kumar is in tied 10th with an overall score of two over 218.

Ali Sher, who is placed tied 22nd at five over 221, fired a hole-in-one in his round of 70 on Friday. Ali Sher achieved the hole-in-one on the 17th with a six-iron tee shot.
