Teenagers Prakhar & Aditi shine in Pune

September 28th 2011, Pune, India: Thirteen-year-old Prakhar Asawa, playing in Category B, returned an impressive card even par 71, the best score of the day as he moved within two shots of the Category A (15-18 years) leaders, Vashistha Pawar (72-73) and Roshan Raj (70-75) at the end of the second day of the Toyota-IGU Junior and sub-junior Golf championships on Wednesday.

Jaipur golfer Asawa, just 13 and a half years of age, is now tied at the third position in overall division (Category A and B) along with Category A player Manu Gandas (73-74). Prakhar had four birdies on the third, fifth, seventh and 18th against an equal number of bogeys. Asawa leads Category B, where he is followed by Piyush Sangwan (76-72) and Viraj Madappa (76-76).

In the girls section, all three girls in Category B, Aditi Ashok, Ridhima Dilawari and Seher Atwal, came back with excellent cards of two-over 73.

But in terms of total after 36 holes, the 13-year-old Aditi Ashok from Bengaluru held the spotlight with her second successive two-over 73 which put her streets ahead in the Girls A & B categories. Aditi, one of the most talented juniors in the country, had a birdie-birdie finish and is now eight shots clear of second place Ridhima Dilawari (81-73) in Category B. In the combined A & B standings, Aditi is eight strokes clear of Raksha Phadke (78-76), who moved ahead of Gurbani Singh (76-83) and Tvesa Malik (79-80). Raksha and Gurbani are in Category A. Each of Aditi’s three birdies came on the back nine, which played in even par 36.

In the Boys section, Vashistha Pawar (72-73) caught up with overnight leader Roshan Raj (70-75) at one-over 145, and the duo was leading by two over Manu Gandas, who carded 74 on the second day. Gandas’ total stood at 147.

In Category C, Dolma Rawat of Army Golf Course (81-84) is leading by 17 strokes over Riya Ahuja of DLF, who is 182. In category D girls, which began on Wednesday, Sahana Paravantavida (91) is leading by four over Tanrika Singh from Delhi.

In Category C boys, Delhi’s Kshitij Naveed Kaul (83-80) and Karandeep Kochar (81-82) of Chandigarh, Arjun Puri of Delhi (80-83) and Jaiveer Singh of Chandigarh (79-84) are in a four-way tie at 163. In Category D for boys, Devansh Chadha of Kolkata is tied with Manav Bais of DLF and Harshjeet Sethi of Delhi with all three shooting 84 each.
