Diksha Dagar, a two-time Ladies European Tour (LET) winner, displayed remarkable skill during the second round's back nine, securing her first-ever cut in a Major tournament a couple of days prior. She continued her exceptional performance throughout the week, particularly on the back nine.
Diksha Dagar registered a T-21st finish after making her first ever cut in a major
Diksha Dagar achieved the finest performance by an Indian female golfer at a Major, concluding the Women's Open tied for 21st place. Her compatriot, Aditi Ashok, completed the tournament in a tied 40th position. Diksha, a two-time LET champion, had a strong showing on the second round's back nine, securing her initial Major cut. She concluded the week with another impressive back-nine performance, marking the best-ever achievement by an Indian woman in a Major event.
Following a slightly challenging front nine with a score of 2-over, Diksha turned her performance around on the back nine, finishing 3-under for an overall score of 1-under. Over the course of four days, her rounds of 74-71-72-71 amounted to an even par 288.
Aditi, in her seventh Women's Open appearance, recorded a second consecutive score of 75, slipping to the tied 40th position after rounds of 72-69-75-75. Despite holding ninth place midway through the tournament, she faced difficulties over the weekend.

Aditi Ashok, completed the tournament in a tied 40th position
Diksha's tied-21st result set a new record for the best performance by an Indian woman in a Major, surpassing Aditi's tied-22nd place in the 2018 Women's Open. In 1998, Smriti Mehra achieved a tied-sixth position in the Women's British Open, but back then, the event wasn't considered a Major until 2001.
This marked Diksha's fourth Women's Open appearance, with this being the first time she made the cut after missing out in 2019, 2020, and 2022. It was also her sixth Major tournament overall, and the first in which she made the cut. Her earnings of USD 84,162 for the tournament were the highest of her professional career and propelled her back into the top five of the Ladies European Tour's Race to Costa Del Sol, where Aditi occupied the third position.
Despite struggling on the front nine with bogeys on the fourth and sixth holes, Diksha managed to rebound on the back nine. She secured birdies on the 12th, 15th, and 17th holes, displaying her resilience. Despite hitting fewer fairways and greens in regulation, Diksha excelled with the putter, recording just 28 putts for the week after exceeding 30 putts in the initial rounds.
Aditi, positioned at tied-28th after the third day, managed to secure birdies on both the front and back nines but struggled with five bogeys in her round of 75.
In the 2023 Race to Costa del Sol rankings, Celine Boutier extended her lead, accumulating 1,725.38 points. Ana Peláez Trivińo from Spain maintained her second position with 1,433.20 points, while Aditi held onto third place with 1,309.19 points. Linn Grant from Sweden secured the fourth position with 1,276.28 points. Diksha's tied-21st performance propelled her to the fifth position in the rankings.
