WATCH NOW : GRPL Wins the Sports League of the Year 2026 award.
GRPL - THE ROYAL TRIAL OF INDIA, has been named Sports League of the Year 2026, recognising the league's vision, execution and early momentum in taking golf beyond the traditional tournament format and building it as a city-based sports property.
GRPL did not win by being another golf tournament. It won by asking what golf could become.
What if good amateur golfers could do more than play golf? What if they could represent their city?
That idea sits at the heart of GRPL - THE ROYAL TRIAL OF INDIA. Instead of creating another golf tournament, GRPL set out to build a franchise-based PRO-AM golf league where golfers could represent cities, compete as teams and become part of something larger than an individual score.
Cities became identities. Golfers became representatives. Team owners became part of the story. And competition became a season-long journey.
The recognition comes midway through Season 1, with three league events already completed and four major stages still to come, built around a simple but ambitious proposition: what happens when golf is structured like a modern sports league?
GRPL brought together cities, teams, team owners, amateur golfers, captains, competition, technology, media, partners and community into one ecosystem, creating a format where golfers were not simply participating in individual events, but representing cities and competing as part of a larger league.

More Than a Golf Tournament
The league's proposition was built around city identity and team ownership.
Instead of a conventional tournament where players arrive, compete and leave, GRPL introduced a franchise-based structure where teams represented cities, had owners and captains, and competed across the season.
For potential team owners, this creates an entirely different proposition: ownership of a golf team becomes participation in a growing sports property, rather than simply association with an individual tournament.

The team owners behind GRPL's first season celebrate the league's recognition.
That model also creates a long-term commercial platform for brands looking to associate with specific cities, teams, audiences and experiences.
The recognition is also backed by a growing media and digital ecosystem.
GRPL did not begin with zero audience, zero relationships or zero understanding of the Indian golf market.
It was built on the foundation of more than two decades of 4moles' presence in golf, with a community of 150,000+ registered golfers, years of golf media, technology, events, relationships and industry experience.
GRPL became the next evolution of that ecosystem, bringing together the community and knowledge built over the years and transforming it into a structured sports property.
During MAY - JULY 2026, GRPL generated:
3.1M+ digital views | 275K+ accounts reached | 1.3M+ Influencer Views | 50,906+ Live Scoring and Golf Predicta views
These numbers demonstrate that the league's proposition extends beyond the golf course, creating a digital audience around the competition, teams and players.
GRPL also used technology to change how the competition was experienced.
Live Leaderboards allowed audiences to follow the competition as it unfolded, while Golf Predicta introduced another layer of interaction and engagement around the league.
Technology was not treated simply as an operational tool. It became part of the spectator and participant experience, helping GRPL build a digital layer around a traditionally on-course sport.
The league brought together amateur golfers across multiple cities, creating an environment where participation, competition, networking and community existed alongside the sport.
That is an important part of GRPL's proposition.
The golfer is not simply a participant. The golfer becomes part of a team, a city and a league.

GRPL brings amateur golfers together through teams, cities and competition.
Captains, owners, players and supporters collectively create the identity of each franchise, giving the competition a sense of belonging that extends beyond individual scores.
The growth of the league has also attracted brands and partners from different sectors, demonstrating the commercial possibilities around the property.
Partners including Lexus, Glenfiddich, Malaysia Tourism and Radisson Hyderabad Hitec City have been part of the GRPL ecosystem, bringing together golf, luxury, lifestyle, travel, hospitality and business.
Their involvement demonstrates an important shift:
GRPL is creating a platform for brands to participate in golf, not simply sponsor a golf tournament.
Built on Sporting Integrity
For GRPL, growth cannot come at the expense of sporting credibility.
The league's philosophy is rooted in fair competition, transparency, sporting ethics and respect for the game.
The objective is not simply to create entertainment around golf, but to build a sports property that participants, partners and audiences can trust.
Credibility is not an add-on to the GRPL model. It is part of the model.
The Sports League of the Year 2026 recognition therefore represents more than a trophy for GRPL.
It is recognition of an attempt to rethink how golf can be packaged, experienced and commercialised as a modern sports property.
And perhaps more importantly, it comes at a time when India is witnessing the rapid growth of city-based sports leagues, franchises and new sports businesses.
GRPL believes golf should have a place in that movement.
For sponsors & Partners, the recognition provides a stronger platform to build upon.
For prospective team owners, it signals that the GRPL model has moved beyond the idea stage and has already generated teams, audiences, sponsors, technology and external recognition.
And the opportunity is still open.
3 events have already been played. The league has already been recognised. But Season 1 is far from over.
Gurugram is next, followed by Ahmedabad, Delhi and an international finale with a INR 1 crore prize pool.
For sponsors, partners and prospective team owners, the opportunity is not to look back at what GRPL has achieved. It is to become part of what comes next.
The award is not the end of the Season 1 story. It is the moment the story gets bigger.
GRPL has been recognised before its inaugural season has even reached its finish line.
And now, the question is not whether golf can become a sports property. The question is how big GRPL can make it.
