India’s young gun Ajeetesh Sandhu continued to keep the hot streak alive as he shot a second successive five-under 67 to stay one shot off the lead at the USD 400,000 Panasonic Open India on Friday.
Ajeetesh Sandhu on a hot streak
Overnight leader Suradit Yongcharoenchai (66-67) from Thailand and Bangladesh’s seasoned star Siddikur Rahman (67-66) shared the halfway lead at 11-under 133.
Young Thai talent Suradit Yongcharoenchai maintained his overnight one-shot lead after signing for a bogey-free five-under-par 67 at the halfway stage of the US$400,000 Panasonic Open India on Friday. Ajeetesh Sandhu shot similar five-under-par 67 and lying in second place.
Suradit, who opened his campaign with a solid 66, returned with a flawless round highlighted by five birdies to sit atop the leaderboard on 11-under-par 133 total at the venerable Delhi Golf Club’s par-72 course measuring 6,935 yards.
Veteran Jeev Milkha Singh, who has made just two cuts in 15 starts in 2018 and has just one Top-5 finish since his win in 2012 Scottish Open, was T-6th with M Dharma (70-67) and four others.
The scoreboard continued to have a liberal sprinkling of the Indian tricolour as half of the Top-14 players were home stars and just over a half, 38 out of 74 making the cut were home golfers. The cut fell at 2-over 146.
It was interesting to see India’s Ajeetesh Sandhu and Thaliland’s Jazz Janewattananond sharing a lighter moment at the Delhi Golf course. As we caught with Jazz for a short interaction, he enthused, “I am looking to gorge on butter chicken with Ajeetesh soon!” Ask him how it is playing in India, he said, “It’s nice being here. Only the pollution levels are a little high.”
We couldn’t agree with you more Jazz!
We spotted India’s women Golfers Ridhima Dilwari and Tvesa Malik taking delight in the game. As we caught up with them, they enthused, “It’s always nice to be here and enjoy watching Golf. Currently, we are working towards the European tour and hope to ride of the success.”
