SHIV KAPUR (IND), SECOND ROUND, THREE-UNDER-PAR 68
I’m happy to have finish it all in one go. It looked pretty dark when we were on the 16th and I thought it was going to be a touch and go. Well, it’s nice and it looks like we will not be playing just three rounds. I got to shoot a really low one to have some kind of chances. It would be nice to finish at six or seven under so I can be a little closer to the leaders.
I just wanted to go off the tee, give myself a lot of chances and hole occasional putts, that’s all. Nothing fancy I guess, just hitting lots of fairways and greens were what I needed to do here. The course is long and brutal and it keeps coming at you. There’s no easy hole out there. You’ve to keep hitting good shots and sometimes an average shot can get pretty bad if you hit on the wrong side of the greens. There are quite a few tough parts. You got to be in the right sections of the greens. Hitting a lot of fairways is the most important and I’m glad that I managed to do that.
I’ve been playing well for the last two to three months. It seems to be turning out well. The quality of my bad shots has improved too and I’m working on playing more within myself such as focusing more on my rhythm and timing. I’m doing a lot of timing drills and trying to get into a position where I can have a lot of playing opportunities. Overall, I’m quite happy at where my game is right now. I feel like I’m really in control of my ball striking, which is good. If you feel slightly out of game, you will most likely not have any chances on this golf course. You need to be coming in with a little bit of form and confidence. This is one of those courses where every single shot is a test for you. You have to stay patient. Although I had a few hiccups, I will try to be patient as this is a tough course.
ANIRBAN LAHIRI (IND), SECOND ROUND, THREE-UNDER-PAR 68
Yesterday was a good day for me although I didn’t start off very well. I’m glad I played really well after that. I fought hard and made a few birdies. The weather’s a bit irritating but you can’t help it. You’ve got to be mentally prepared for it. You have to switch on and off a lot. Some of the guys have not played for a day and a half. I guess you just got to be mentally prepared for it when you’re playing in Singapore. It’s not ideal right now but hopefully we can get some good weather all the way till end of tomorrow. I’ve never really played well on this course. This is the first time I think. Right now, I’m playing some of the best golf I’ve played in a while. I’m feeling really confident with my game and I’m happy with it.
GAGANJEET BHULLAR (IND), SECOND ROUND, TWO-UNDER-PAR 69
I made a double bogey on the fifth hole and a bogey on the 13th but made good birdies on the nine and 16th with amazing pars on hole 10th, 11th and 12th, 14th and 15th as well. In other words, I think it could have easily been a 79 or 81. I think I must have hit like two or three fairways from the tee. Today was one of those rounds where I was hitting all over the map. In fact, for a couple of holes, I have never seen those kind of shots before in my practice rounds. I was hitting the ball everywhere and Y.E. Yang actually asked if I was alright today and if I slept well last night. It obviously felt like I was having a hangover so I hope to come back nicely for the final two rounds. I definitely need some sleep before my next round and to get over today’s round. I’m going to take some time off and rest for the next few hours. Probably have some lunch and get ready for the next action.
