November 16th 2012: Thaworn Wiratchant and Gaganjeet Bhullar, two of the hottest stars on the Asian Tour this season, are inside the top-100 of the Official World Golf Ranking following stellar results on the region’s established Tour.

Thaworn won his 13th Asian Tour title at the Queen’s Cup in Thailand in June and followed it up with a second win in three months at the Worldwide Holdings Selangor Masters in Malaysia.

The Thai went on to cap a sensational third victory of the year and a record of 15 Asian Tour wins when he defeated Richie Ramsay of Scotland on the first play-off hole to lift the Hero Indian Open trophy.

His victory also propelled him to the top of the Order of Merit and his stellar performances have pushed him to 79th position on the Official World Golf Ranking, putting him in prime position of breaking into the top-50 by the end of the season if he continues his fine form in the remaining Asian Tour events.

India’s Bhullar, fourth on the Order of Merit, translated two runner-up finishes earlier in the season to a victory at the Yeangder Tournament Players Championship in Chinese Taipei. In less than a month, he etched his name on the winner’s trophy again at the Venetian Macau Open.

Tipped to be the next generation of stars from India, Bhullar was delighted to break inside the top-100 and like Thaworn, he is eyeing to be ranked inside the top-50 by the end of the season.

“That’s the goal and first time you see yourself inside the top-100, it is definitely a great sense of achievement. If you look at it there are only 55 million golfers in the world and if you are inside the top-100, that’s an achievement,” said the 24-year-old.

“Obviously you know this will be a great boost for me and the goals are to get inside the top-50 and then the top-10. That is the goal and ultimately you work hard to achieve that goal day in and day out,” added Bhullar.

Asian Tour honorary member K.J. Choi is the highest ranked Asian on the Official World Golf Ranking in 45th place. His countryman Bae Sang-moon, a three-time Asian Tour winner, is ranked 58th.

Australia’s Marcus Fraser, second on the Asian Tour Order of Merit, lies in 72nd position followed closely by Asian Tour honorary member Vijay Singh of Fiji in 73rd place.

Koreans Y.E. Yang and Noh Seung-yul, the 2010 Asian Tour number one, are in 86th and 87th positions respectively while Jeev Milkha Singh of India is placed 96th.
