Day 1

February 20th 2010, Arizona, U.S.A:  Three-time Asian Tour number one Thongchai Jaidee of Thailand advanced into the final eight of the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship after defeating Japan’s teenage prodigy, Ryo Ishikawa 5 and 4 on Friday.

The Thai ace posted birdies on his first two holes to take a quick lead over the Japanese. After making pars on his first two holes, Ishikawa bogeyed seven of his next 10 holes and never gave himself a chance against Thongchai.

Thongchai was content to follow his game plan, keep the ball in the fairway and secure his pars, which he did for the final eight holes of the match.

"I played a very good game plan today," said Thongchai who in his first Accenture Match Play Championship, will finish no less than a tie for fifth, giving him the best PGA Tour finish of his career.

The Thai, currently 50th in the world, is also hoping that a good run will keep him in the top-50.

India’s Jeev Milkha Singh meanwhile bowed out at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club after losing 5 and 4 to England’s Ian Poulter who advanced to the quarterfinals for the first time since his fourth-place finish in 2005

Singh posted a bogey on the par-three sixth when he found the rough with his tee shot and could not get up-and down. The Indian then faded with bogeys on the eighth and 10th holes, to watch Poulter advanced to the quarterfinals.
