In 2023, Gaganjeet Bhullar, a shining star for Indian men's pro golf internationally, achieved his best season-ending rank at third on the Asian Tour's Order of Merit. However, the outlook for 2024 is uncertain, as there may be no golf events in India on the Asian Tour schedule for the first time in 40–50 years.

Bhullar ranks third in the Asian Tour
A few years ago, India used to host four major golf events each year as part of the Asian Tour. Besides the Indian Open, which has been an important feature on the Asian Tour till 2014, Events such as Hero Honda Masters, SAIL Open, Panasonic Open, and more recently, the Delhi Golf Club Open, gave Indian golfers a chance to compete at a high level, earn world ranking points, and win prize money in US dollars. Indian golf stars like Jeev Milkha Singh, Arjun Atwal, and Jyoti Randhawa became No. 1 in the Asian Tour rankings, putting Indian golf on the world map.
But now, if things continue this way, it will be tough for Indian players to get into other Asian Tour events. The Asian Tour has been growing a lot, especially after signing a huge sponsorship deal with Saudi Arabia in 2022. They have a plan for more events, starting with the $1 million Malaysian Open in February and ending with the International Series Qatar in December.
Sadly, the $750,000 DGC Open presented by Mastercard, which was the only Asian Tour event in India for the past two years, is not happening in 2024. Reports say that the Delhi Golf Club decided not to host the event next year.
