Scottie Scheffler emerged as the commanding figure at Augusta National, channeling a performance reminiscent of Tiger Woods at his peak. His one-under 71 in the third round propelled him to seven under par, positioning him one stroke ahead of Collin Morikawa. The Texan's display marked him as the hottest favorite since Woods' dominance in the 2000s, igniting excitement reminiscent of those legendary years.

In pursuit, Morikawa crafted a solid 69 to reach six under, while Max Homa trailed closely behind on five under after carding a 73. Bryson DeChambeau, who shared the lead overnight, stumbled with a 75 but reignited his campaign with a spectacular birdie from the 18th fairway. Despite a challenging day, he remained in contention at three under. Conversely, Woods endured a difficult round, finishing 11 over par after an 82.

Collin Morikawa
Among the rising contenders was Swedish newcomer Ludvig Aberg, who notched a commendable 70 to position himself just behind DeChambeau. Aberg, alongside fellow European Ryder Cup player Nicolai Hojgaard, harbored aspirations of becoming the first Masters debutant to clinch victory in a major.
Hojgaard's journey was a rollercoaster, with a brief lead tarnished by a string of bogeys. However, Scheffler's resilience shone through, reclaiming the top spot with an eagle on 13 and a crucial birdie on 15. Meanwhile, Morikawa maintained composure amidst the chaos, securing par after par to remain hot on Scheffler's heels.
As the final day beckoned, anticipation surged for the duel between Scheffler and Morikawa, set to tee off as the last pairing. The stage was set for a captivating showdown between two US Ryder Cup teammates, each vying for Masters glory.
Woods, on the other hand, faced a stark contrast from his illustrious past, grappling with inconsistencies and physical limitations. Despite his unparalleled legacy, the 15-time major champion struggled to find form, conceding to the challenges posed by Augusta's unforgiving terrain.

Elsewhere, Rory McIlroy's pursuit of the career Grand Slam remained elusive, with the Northern Irishman trailing behind the leaders. While his aspirations lingered, McIlroy acknowledged the uphill battle but remained determined to finish on a positive note.
Defending champion Jon Rahm faced similar struggles, unable to mount a significant challenge after narrowly making the cut. Despite his disappointment, Rahm remained gracious, acknowledging the inevitable passing of the Green Jacket to the next worthy recipient.
As the tournament reached its climax, the spotlight shifted to Scheffler and Morikawa, poised for a dramatic finale at Augusta National. With the leaderboard ablaze and the echoes of past champions reverberating through the pines, the stage was set for another chapter of Masters history to unfold.
