Currently in third and fourth position, respectively, are Rory McIlroy (-9) and Scottie Scheffler.

To maintain his lead, Fowler shot a round of 70, which was even par. It seemed as though he would hold the sole lead, but his performance took a minor turn for the worst when he made a costly bogey on hole 18.

Fowler's finest shot of the day came on hole 13 when he rolled in a 69-footer for birdie from just off the edge of the green.

Wyndham Clark

Wyndham Clark shot a 1-under 69 with four birdies and three bogeys. The Wells Fargo Championship champion encountered difficulty on the par-three seventeenth hole but was able to recover and shoot a bogey. On hole 18, Clark made a long approach from the fairway and sank a birdie to tie for the lead. In just his eighth major outing, he took his first major lead.

Rory McIlroy

After shooting a 1-under 69 on Saturday, Rory McIlroy now has a chance to win his first major championship since the PGA Championship in 2014. During his round, the third-ranked golfer in the world had 13 pars, two bogeys, and three birdies.

In order to get to 7-under par and fall three strokes behind the leaders, Scottie Scheffer concluded his round with a hole-out from the fairway for an eagle on the 17th hole. He then followed it up with a long 22-foot birdie on the 18th hole.

Scheffler started his front nine with a 35 and finished it with a 33 for a 2-under par 68. The 26-year-old has two victories this year, one at the Players Championship and the other at the Waste Management Phoenix Open (defended title). With 13 top 10 finishes in 17 races, his form has been outstanding.

Xander Schauffele commenced the third round at 8-under par, two shots behind the lead. However, he carded  3-over 73 and dropped to 5-under, five strokes back.

Tom Kim, a 20-year-old South Korean, tied the nine-hole U.S. Open scoring record with a score of 6-under-par 29. With his efforts, Kim moved up the scoreboard to T9. He had a chance to be in contention but slowed down with a back-nine score of 2-over 37.
