Who Owns Selection in Indian Sport: Law, Process, or Performance?

Indian sport often speaks the language of merit, preparation, and fairness. But when governance structures fracture, the reality faced by athletes can look very different.

The recent developments around Indian golf and Asian Games 2026 selections have brought a larger question into sharp focus, one that goes well beyond a single sport or federation.

At the heart of the issue lies a familiar tension:

  • Legal recognition versus procedural integrity

  • Administrative authority versus performance-based selection

  • Deadlines versus due process

In this case, official documents, court recognition, and SOPs exist on paper.

Yet timelines, parallel submissions, and the absence of mandated trials have created uncertainty for players whose careers depend on clarity.

This raises uncomfortable but necessary questions:

  • If a body is legally recognised, is that alone enough to justify selection decisions?

  • If SOPs mandate trials, can they be bypassed due to administrative pressure?

  • When multiple authorities claim influence, where does responsibility toward athletes truly lie?

  • And most importantly, who should own selection in Indian sport when law, process, and performance do not align?

This forum is not about taking sides. Courts and ministries address legality.

What remains open for discussion is governance culture, process transparency, and athlete protection.

To understand the full context before participating, we strongly recommend reviewing:

When legal authority, selection SOPs, and performance timelines collide, who should ultimately control national team selection in Indian sport—and how should athletes be protected when governance fails to align?

We invite administrators, athletes, coaches, lawyers, fans, and informed observers to share their perspectives.

Because in elite sport, uncertainty isn’t just administrative. It’s career-defining.
