CHARLOTTE, N.C: If you thought you might see some most sought names at the 2017 PGA championship leaderboard, you are probably off the radar. 

 

It is world number-25 Kevin Kisner who is garnering headlines and will lead the field into the final round of the 99th USPGA Championship at Quail Hollow. 

 

At the top, Kevin Kisner (72) marched ahead after overcoming a rough finish at the PGA championship.

Following consecutive 4-under 67s, Kevin Kisner carded a third-round 1-over 72 to move to 7-under 206 at the PGA Championship. He’ll carry a one-stroke lead into the final round over Chris Stroud and Hideki Matsuyama. Kisner birdied Nos. 14 and 15 to jump to 10-under and a two-stroke lead through 15 holes, but then played Nos. 16-18 in 3-over with a double bogey-par-bogey finish.

 

Kisner through three rounds: 31 of 42 fairways, 42 of 54 greens, 89 putts. A win on Sunday would come in Kisner’s 155th PGA TOUR start at the age of 33 years, 5 months and 29 days.

 

FedExCup leader Hideki Matsuyama followed a bogey-free 7-under 64 with a third-round 2-over 73, falling out of a tie for the lead and into second place with Chris Stroud, one behind Kisner. After 13 birdies over the first 36 holes, Matsuyama had just one during the third round (par-5 seventh hole).

 

Justin Thomas (69) and Louis Oosthuizen (71) were tied fourth at five-under, while Grayson Murray (73) was sixth at three-under.

You need a lot of mettle when you're in the number one position, but thankfully for Kevin Kisner, he is too occupied to worry about any of that. Rather than spending the morning before his 2 p.m. tee time anxiously waiting around, Kisner was busy building forts for his daughter.

Stroud has become the wonder element of the tournament, teeing off in the final paring on Sunday along with tournament leader Kevin Kisner. An 11-year PGA Tour veteran, the 35-year-old Stroud had played in 288 PGA Tour events but had never won until capturing the Barracuda Championship in incredible fashion last Sunday.
