The 80th U.S. Women’s Open is set to captivate the golf world from May 29 to June 1, 2025, at Erin Hills in Erin, Wisconsin. This marks the first time Erin Hills, known for its challenging layout and scenic beauty, will host the U.S. Women’s Open. With a field of 156 players, including eight past champions and 24 of the top 25 players in the world rankings, the championship promises high-stakes competition and memorable moments.

Here are five key highlights to know about this year's championship:

1.  Record-Breaking Prize Pool: USD 12 Million Up for Grabs

The 2025 U.S. Women’s Open boasts a record-setting USD 12 million purse, the largest in women's golf history. The winner will take home USD 2.4 million, matching the amount Yuka Saso earned in 2024. This significant increase underscores the USGA's commitment to elevating women's sports and providing equitable opportunities for female athletes.

2.  Yuka Saso Aims for a Historic Third Title

Defending champion Yuka Saso returns to Erin Hills with the opportunity to secure her third U.S. Women’s Open title. Saso previously won in 2021 representing the Philippines and again in 2024 representing Japan, becoming the first player in USGA history to win the U.S. Women’s Open for two different countries. A third victory would place her among an elite group of golfers who have achieved this feat.

3.  A Truly Global Field

The championship received 1,904 entries from golfers across 46 U.S. states and 60 foreign countries, making it one of the most internationally diverse fields in the tournament's history. This global representation highlights the growing popularity and competitiveness of women's golf worldwide.

India, however, is notably missing from the draw this year. Despite the rise of stars like Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar on other tours, no Indian woman made the cut through qualifying or exemptions—an absence that has sparked reflection within the growing Indian golfing community.

4.  Erin Hills: A New Challenge for the Women's Open

Erin Hills, a public course known for its rolling terrain and challenging layout, previously hosted the 2017 U.S. Open (men's). This year marks its debut as the venue for the U.S. Women’s Open, offering a fresh and demanding test for the competitors. The course's unique features are expected to provide an exciting backdrop for the championship.

5.  Comprehensive Broadcast Coverage

This year’s Open won’t just be about who wins—it’s about who watches. Fans can catch all the action through extensive broadcast coverage. In the United States, NBC, Golf Channel, and Peacock will provide live coverage of the tournament. This ensures that viewers won't miss any of the thrilling moments as the world's best female golfers compete for the prestigious title.

Final Thoughts

The 2025 U.S. Women’s Open at Erin Hills is poised to be a landmark event in women's golf, combining a historic venue, a record-breaking purse, and a globally diverse field. As the championship unfolds, it promises to deliver unforgettable moments and showcase the incredible talent and determination of the world's top female golfers.
