Researchers at Auburn University in the United States have discovered that a moderate dose of caffeine (the quantity found in your average cup of coffee) can improve a golfer’s score by up to 2 strokes!
The study carried out independently, noted that from a group of 12 golfers, the half who took a caffeine supplement scored on average 2 strokes fewer than the other half, who were given a placebo. The caffeinated golfers also drove the ball further and hit more greens in regulation.
For a long time, we held the belief that caffeine causes jitters and could harm your short game, but this study has conclusively proven that idea wrong! A study from the British Journal of Sports Science discovered similar effects on runners, finding that over a 1,500m distance, runners who had taken a caffeine supplement completed their run 4.2 seconds quicker than their un-caffeinated counterparts.
