SCORESHEET
DAY 1

October 21st 2010, Panchkula: Vijay Kumar signed a card of 66 to open up a five-stroke lead in round two of the Haryana Open 2010 presented by Unitech, Ireo, HUDA and Panchkula Golf Club. The Lucknow golfer’s total now stands at 13 under 131. Sri Lanka’s Anura Rohana is in second place as he has the next best total of eight under 136.

The cut was declared at five over 149. Fifty-one professionals and two amateurs made the cut.

Vijay Kumar (65-66) built on his first round effort by firing eight birdies against two bogeys on Thursday. Vijay made a solid start by landing his lob wedge shot from 60 yards within a few inches for birdie on the first. He hit a similar shot on the fifth that came up three feet short and produced yet another birdie.

Vijay continued to hit it extremely close and thus bagged more birdies on the seventh, eighth, 10th, 11th and 12th. He bogeyed the 15th after finding the bushes but came back strongly with a chip-in for birdie on the 17th. A bogey on the 18th meant he closed the day with a round of 66.

“If my hitting was exceptional in round one, it was even better today. I performed extremely well with the lob wedge and pitching wedge and landed most of my shots within seven feet of the pin. The putts also rolled in for me today. I grabbed my opportunities on the four par-five holes since I birdied three of them and dropped a bogey on the fourth.

“This is a great position to be in at the end of round two. I’ll just have to guard against being complacent as the gap can be closed pretty quickly on this course,” said Vijay.

Anura Rohana’s (66-70) second round of two under 70 featured five birdies and three bogeys. Rohana, who lost out in a playoff to Sujjan Singh at the Panchkula Golf Club earlier this year, ended the day in second place thanks to some consistent putting.

Mukesh Kumar posted a 67 to share third place at seven under 137 along with Ashok Kumar and Bangladesh’s Md Zamal Hossain Mollah, both of whom shot scores of 70.

Chandigarh’s Harendra Gupta, Balwinder Singh Mattu of Jalandhar and Amardip Sinh Malik are tied sixth at six under 138. Harendra Gupta shot a 66 in round two, which turned out to be the best score of the day along with Vijay Kumar’s 66.

C Muniyappa (69-70) is placed tied ninth at five under 139 while Gaganjeet Bhullar’s (75-68) second round 68 placed him tied 17th at one under 143.
