November 16th 2013, Greater Noida, India: The Inaugural Newgen Golf Cup had a great start when a full field of 111 golfers teed off on a glorious winter morning at the beautiful Jaypee Greens Golf Resort on Saturday, the 16th of Nov 2013.

Invited participants and dignitaries from varied backgrounds and companies, including Unicef, Kohinoor Foods Ltd., Accenture, Indiabulls, IndusInd Bank, HCL, Ministry Of Information & Broadcasting, Delhi Metro, GAIL, Ministry of Railways, and Jaypee Group among others, came together to compete for honors in two handicap categories, 0 -12 and 13 -24. Played on the stableford format with a shotgun start, the players were scored off 3/4th of their original handicaps and received attractive prizes for the top three positions in each handicap category.
Inspired by the perfect golfing conditions and a golf course in impeccable shape, Dinkar Marla played quality golf to score 40 pts to be adjudged the overall winner in the handicap category 0-12, while RVS Sodhi and Mayank Arora were the first and second runners up respectively with 38 points each. Their tie was resolved on a countback.
In the handicap category 13-24 Gen Bhopinder Singh used the “Newgen Value adds” to good effect to emerge as the winner, with 41 points, followed by VK Garg with 38 pts and Deepak Gupta with 37 pts. The “Newgen value adds” entitled all the players to replay 2 tee shots on any two holes on the course. There was a special award to encourage the ladies and Veera Singh with 32 points emerged as the Lady with the best score to claim the prize.

The tournament also acknowledged skills based performances and some exceptional shots were played throughout the round. International golfer and three time Sri Lankan National Champion, Simarjeet Singh won the prize for the ‘longest drive’, with a blow of 331 yards on the 6th hole. The winner of the ‘straightest drive’ on the 11th hole was Ashish Kumar when his drive finished ½ an inch from the centre line drawn on the fairway. Mayank Arora won the ‘closest to pin’ contest on the 16th hole when his tee shot ended up at a distance of 4 feet from the hole.
Besides these, there were many exciting prizes given through lucky draws and an eagerly contested quiz contest. There was also a putting clinic followed by a putting competition for the non golfer guests. Contested by 23 participants from all age groups. Manisha and Tushar emerged as joint winners when both holed their putts, a long curling one at that.
The event was managed by Delhi based Digraj Golf Inc.
