Matloob Ahmed wins PGTI Qualifying Final Stage

December 11th 2009, Gurgaon: Pakistan’s Matloob Ahmed Rana (73, 73, 70, 70) emerged winner at the Aircel-PGTI’s Final Qualifying Stage for the 2010 season which was played at the Golden Greens Golf & Country Club, Gurgaon. Rana totaled two under 286 for the tournament after he fired two under 70 in the final round on Friday. Rana’s compatriot Muhammad Siddique (70, 72, 75, 70) finished second with an overall score of one under 287. Karanjit Singh Sandhu (67, 76, 69, 76) of the DLF Golf & Country Club grabbed third place after finishing with an overall score of even par 288. Mohd. Yamin, also from the DLF Golf & Country Club, was a further stroke behind in fourth place.

The top 42 players from the Final Qualifying Stage earned full cards for the 2010 Aircel-PGTI season.

Matloob Ahmed Rana’s fourth round of two under 70 included birdies on the sixth, ninth, 13th, 16th and bogeys on the 15th and 17th.

Rana said, “This is a very important victory for me. It will give me a lot of confidence for the 2010 Aircel-PGTI season. I now hope to build on this performance and scale greater heights in the next season.”

He added, “I think the turning point for me today was the birdie on the 13th, where I hit my eight iron second shot from 160 yards to within three feet of the pin.”

Runner-up Muhammad Siddique’s final round 70 featured an eagle on the 18th, four birdies and four bogeys.
