Michael Jordan on US Ryder Cup team

September 5th 2012: Basketball legend Michael Jordan will be part of the US Ryder Cup back-room staff at this year's event to try and "influence" the team.

US captain Davis Love III revealed his four wild card picks on Tuesday with Dustin Johnson, Jim Furyk, Brandt Snedeker and Steve Stricker getting the nod from the 48-year-old.

But he also admitted that Jordan, whose love of golf is well known, will be seen with the players throughout the three days of action at Medinah.

The 49-year-old Chicago Bulls' legend fulfilled a similar role for Corey Pavin at Celtic Manor in 2010 and it nearly worked as the USA came up just short as Europe reclaimed the famous trophy by the narrowest of margins.

And Love hopes that the 14-time NBA All-Star's charisma will help his charges pull off a victory in Chicago later in September.

"I've talked to him. Michael's going to be hanging around with Fred (Couples) probably a lot and be an influence," he said. "I told Michael this a couple weeks ago. "

"One of the neatest things I ever saw in the Ryder Cup was Michael riding in the golf cart with Tom Kite. He came out to watch Freddie and I play and I thought that was one of the coolest things."

And Love made it clear that Jordan will be a visible presence during the event and will not just be used as motivational tool prior to the players teeing off.

"Rather than him sneaking around in the gallery, I want him to be seen and I want him to be in our team room, be hanging around and be a great influence," he added.
