DAY 1
May 6th 2010, Mumbai, India: Delhi’s Shamim Khan enjoys a three-stroke advantage after round three of the PGTI Players Championship presented by Bombay Presidency Golf Club. Shamim shot three under 67 on Thursday to move his total to seven under 203. Bangladesh’s Mohd. Siddikur Rahman fired a 69 to finish the day in second place at four under 206.
Shamim Khan (69, 67, 67) closed in on his sixth career title when he finished three strokes clear of the field on Thursday. Shamim did not have the greatest of starts as he made bogeys on the second and third. However, birdies on the fourth and sixth helped him pull back to even par for the day. The 32-year-old bogeyed the ninth to make the turn at one over.
Shamim then hit a purple patch on the back nine as he birdied the 12th, 13th, 16th and 18th. The highlight of his round was the 25 feet birdie putt on the 13th.
Shamim said, “I had a poor start as I missed a few fairways early on. My hitting improved as the round progressed and I hit it quite close on a number of holes. I also did not miss too many putts today.”
He added, “I’ll focus on making maximum fairways and greens tomorrow in order to fire a low score.”
