Shubhankar Sharma, a 27-year-old golfer, recently participated in the prestigious BMW PGA Championship held at Wentworth in England. This event followed his impressive top 10 finish at the Open Championship in July. Sharma's performance at Wentworth resulted in him tying for 36th place.
Sharma will next play the US$ 3.25mn Cazoo Open de France
Sharma's journey at the BMW PGA Championship was a nail-biter as he narrowly made the cut by just one stroke. However, he exhibited consistent and solid play throughout the weekend, ultimately landing him in the middle of the leaderboard. Notably, this marked the first time since June that he had managed to make consecutive cuts. His previous tournament, the Irish Open, saw him finish tied for seventh place.
In terms of earnings, Sharma secured 53,211 euros from his performance at Wentworth. As of now, he holds the 48th position in the European Tour Rankings, amassing 778.01 points across 19 events. It's worth noting that the top 20 players on this list secure PGA Tour cards for the upcoming season, making this a significant achievement for Sharma.
Sharma's upcoming challenge will be the Cazoo Open de France, a tournament with a purse of US$3.25 million, scheduled from September 21 to 24.
The BMW PGA Championship is renowned for its tradition of inviting celebrities and other sports stars to participate. Among the notable figures who graced the event were Gareth Bale from the world of football, the talented actor Tom Holland, the actress Kathryn Newton, and the cricket legend Sir Andrew Strauss, among others.
