Ajeetesh Sandhu placed 2nd after a playoff with Nitithorn Thippong at The DGC Open. The Delhi Golf club, witness a spectacular battle between Ajeetesh Sandhu (-7) 71 and Nitithorn Thippong (-7) 73 to win The DGC Open trophy presented by Mastercard.

 

A. Sandhu and N. Thippong shot a birdie each in the 18th hole to finish seven under after four rounds, which results in a playoff. In the 18th hole, tied with A.Sandhu, N. Thippong holed a 10- footer for birdie. This forced A. Sandhu to make his four from five feet to send the tournament into overtime.

During R3, Sandhu got second place. In R4, he maintained position 1 throughout the tournament. The play-off was a game-changer. Thippong leads the tournament in the final moment claims prize money of USD 90,000. The Thai golfer, with two fine shots in the playoff, leaves himself a 15- foot eagle putt, whereas A. Sandhu missed his birdie attempt from 18 feet.

For A. Sandhu, the wait for his second Asian Tour win continues. The Chandigarh-based golfer’s last title on the Tour came in 2017 in Taiwan. His last PGTI title was the Jeev Milkha Singh Invitational in Chandigarh 2019.

 

"It was a good week. Looking back, I'll definitely take a lot from it. It was disappointing how it finished but that's golf. You always have to keep coming back from disasters. No regrets because while competing you're always trying best," said Sandhu.

 

For, 25 years old Thippong, he never led an Asain Tour before, but (-7) 73 on Sunday, took the golfer from Bangkok, 1st position. I can't describe my feelings right now. To win on the Asian Tour I have been waiting for this for a long time, "said Nitithorn, a professional since 2015.

 

On the 14th, he made a bogey, but he didn't lose his mind. His focus and determination during the last two shots at the playoff made him the winner.

 

Gaganjeet Bhullar, who has won nine times on the Asian Tour, the most of any Indian, secured 4th position.
