Farmers Insurance Open being a professional golf tournament in the PGA Tour is always played in San Diego, California ever since 1952. It is now being held from the 26th of January to the 29th of January 2022, the first 2 rounds being played at the Torrey Pines South Course. Just like the American Express that was held last week at La Quinta, this tournament too will be played on two courses, the north and the south with the last 36 holes to be played on the South Course.

Tiger Woods is the only player that has had 7 legendary wins in the tournament while Phil Mickelson has had 3 wins in the same. The best of the players end up playing this tournament, making it very competitive and therefore a hundred times more interesting and exciting for the watchers and even the participants. The course has a total of one hundred and fifty-six players participating from all over the world and competing to be the tournament’s best. Having a purse of $8,400,000 the tournament has a lot to offer to its winners along with an extra incentive to 6 players out of the top ten in the tournament that would soon look forward to hosting in OWGR.

Anirban Lahiri Playing Golf

Anirban Lahiri is the only Indian participating in the Farmers Insurance Open and with all the pressure and the weight of performance on his shoulders, he looks forward to doing his best and making his country proud. Though Lahiri could not put forth his level best at the American Express that was held just last week where he ended up tied for 66th place, he still would try harder and push up his game in this tournament being in company with Maverick McNealy and Brandon Hagey. Anirban Lahiri who could not make the cut in the previous tournaments in the years 2016, 2020, and 2021 did not have a fruitful past in the Farmers Open could only make the cut in 2018 where he was at a tie for 54th place. This time he looks forward to doing better than all the other times he played here in the past. Holding the top positions is not easy in this star-studded tournament where the world’s best players show off their golf skills. Yet, Anirban Lahiri was able to make the cut on the first day of the tournament holding the tie for the 76th position after the opening round where he hit 4 birdies in holes 12, 13, 15, and 17 that got him ending the day at par one-under 71.

"Torrey Pines is always nice to come back to especially on a sunny day. It's been freezing cold. And we had severe winds on Monday this week. But I got nice practice on Tuesday," said Lahiri. "We're going to be back here for the US Open, in about six months and right now it is set pretty much similar. There's almost 4-5 of rough. Even in the practice round, it took 2-3 minutes to find any golf ball that kind of missed the fairway, so it's severe. If you do miss the fairway it's quite severe so I think all focus is going to be on keeping it on the fairways and kind of controlling it in the wind when it does get up, and hopefully it doesn't get too cold, so yeah it's going to be an interesting week." He continued, "I have played here a few times so I feel pretty comfortable. It's going to be about keeping it on the short stuff and trying to make birdies wherever you can and par is not a bad score."

Billy Horschel Topping Round 1 of Farmers Insurance Open

Showing his best game on the course, Lahiri still has a long way to go. The players that hold the top 2 positions are Billy Horschel of America with a score of par nine-under 63, occupying the first position, and Michael Thompson with a score of par nine-under 64 occupying the second position. Lahiri is not too far beyond and can still roll way up the leaderboard. Hoping to play well in the next three rounds and show a better game, he will surely go far beyond his limits and surprise the audience.
