Gurugram, 12 October 2025: In a dramatic finale at the Women’s Indian Open, Shannon Tan of Singapore emerged victorious with a total of –7, claiming the title by one stroke over Alice Hewson of England, who carded –6.

Hitaashee Bakshi, despite entering Day 4 with a three shot lead, held on admirably to finish in 3rd place at –5, making her the best placed Indian in the field. She ended three strokes behind the champion. Pranavi Urs placed 4th at –4, while Avani Prashanth shared T5 at –3. Local favourite Vani Kapoor tied for 10th, finishing at +1.
Also of note, Zara Anand was the best placed amateur, tied 15th at +3. Diksha Dagar finished T41 at +10, and Tvesa Malik closed at T59 with a score of +16.
Hitaashee’s Round 4 Struggles and Resolve
Bakshi had looked in commanding position going into the final day, carrying a three shot lead after a third round of 70 (–2), her third straight under par round. Yet in the final round, she faltered just enough for Hewson and Tan to close in. Hitaashee was visibly emotional at the end, moved by how close she came to rewriting history.

Alice Hewson’s Collapse at the 18th
Hewson, who had been in control late, carded a double bogey on the 18th hole, dropping from an apparent –8 position to finish at –6. Her late misstep opened the door for Tan.

Tan’s Composure Under Pressure
Throughout the back nine, Tan showed steady nervmaking e, the necessary birdies and avoiding costly mistakes. As Hewson and others pressured, Tan held firm and capitalised on others’ slip ups to clinch the title.
Indian Hopes and the 9 Year Drought
Hitaashee’s performance reignited hopes of ending India’s long wait for a national winner. The last Indian to win the Women’s Indian Open was Aditi Ashok in 2016. For Bakshi, the close miss will sting, but she proved she can contend at the highest level on home soil.
“I went one shot at a time. This is my home course, I just tried to stay calm,” Bakshi said after her final round.
On Hewson’s double at 18, one on-course observer said, “She had been leading till the end, but that 18th was brutal. Tan seized the moment.”
Tan, on her win, said, “To come through under that pressure is something I’m very proud of. Credit to Alice, she pushed me till the last hole.”
Hitaashee Bakshi had three under par rounds heading into Sunday and had stretched her lead to as many as six shots during Round 3. Alice Hewson was in command deep into the final round, but the 18th hole sealed her fate. Tan’s victory adds another chapter to her growing resume as she strengthens her presence on the LET. The emotional scenes from Hitaashee post round suggest this Sunday could become a pivotal learning moment in her young career.
