Playing in an era dominated by the stupefying brilliance of male golfing legends, Aditi Ashok’s success at the Mediheal Championship is no mean feat. Armed with six birdies, she shot an amazing 69 on Sunday to finish T7 in the Mediheal Championship.

With the increasing popularity of Aditi Ashok in the international Golfing terrain, the possibility of an LPGA event in India is certainly not a far-fetched dream.
According to varied sources, several organizations from India have already contacted the LPGA in the past 12 months about hosting an event in India. And if reports are to be believed, an LPGA official will be traveling to India in the next two months to explore the potential.
Now, that’s an interesting update.
On making Golf popular in India

In an earlier exclusive interview with 4moles.com, she had said that a lot needs to be done to make Golf a mass sport. “Golf is not yet accessible in India. Kids generally tend to pick up games that are played in schools. I feel if you want to make the game popular, you need to introduce it at the school level. For example, China has made Golf mandatory in schools in instil upright values in children. I think, even India can follow suit,” said Aditi.
There’s a lot of untapped talent in India and making Golf more accessible could see a steady stream of players coming through the ranks. “Now since Golf is an Olympic sport, there’s a need to come up with more driving ranges so that the game reaches out to more people. Also, Golf, as a whole, is dearer than a lot of other sports. If we can work towards making the game an affordable one, I am sure we can attract a lot of talent,” quipped Aditi.
