About me: An amateur golfer who won the Junior World Golf Championships in 2015. Currently, I have won over 100 domestic and international tournaments.
Choosing Golf over wrestling: I was born into a family of wrestlers - a sport that is popular in my village Israna - 100 kilometres north of Delhi. My grandfather wanted me to do something else and enrolled me in a newly-opened golf academy in the village. I was about six when I started golf, but the academy was short-lived -- too expensive to run in a rural Indian village. But then, I was already in love with the game so I decided to pursue my passion. Without regular lessons, I spent hours playing in my backyard and browsing YouTube videos to perfect my technique.
Tryst with the Golf Foundation: My Golf journey brought me in contact with my mentor and the founder of The Golf Foundation, Amit Luthra. With the help of The Golf Foundation, we decided to move base to Delhi to spend more time on polishing my talent. I was enrolled in Laxman Public School and started practising at the Delhi Golf Club. My coach Nonita Lal Qureshi has been a pillar of strength in my Golf journey.
On the growth of Junior Golf in India : It’s good to see more junior Golfers making their presence felt. I feel parents must not pressurise kids to win medals but just support them in their endeavour—like my parents did.
My dream 4-ball : Ben Hogan, Tiger Woods, Jordan Spieth and me!
