About me: A 20-year-old Professional Golfer, a final year Economics Honours student of Jesus and Mary College. My home club is DLF Golf and Country Club and I have been playing Golf for the last 10 years. I recently picked up my maiden title of the season in Hero WPG Tour.
Choosing Golf over Tennis: I used to play Tennis earlier. There was a golf range band opposite the tennis courts and my younger brother just happened to walk across to the golf driving range and started hitting balls and liked the sport. So he picked up the sport before me and I followed. No one in our family plays except the two of us. I think Golf is a very challenging sport as compared to others but at the same time a relaxing sport as well! I personally feel that Golf is great for your temperament and teaches you how to make sound decisions under pressure, a very useful skill which can be implemented in daily life. The overall benefit of this game towers over any other sport.
Interesting Golf moment: As kids, my brother and I used to volunteer at the Men's and Women's Indian Open. One Indian open the great Laura Davies was hosting a clinic for the junior golfers. My brother and I were very keen to see her. Her signature shot is a driver off the deck. We were awestruck. This January I had the opportunity to go play some events on the European tour being hosted in Australia. While warming up for round 1 on the range I see none other than Laura Davies warming up behind me. And that is when it struck me that my childhood star who I looked up to is now my competitor!! I did run up to her for a quick picture as I just couldn't let go of that opportunity.
My Dream 4-Ball: Tiger Woods, Lexi Thompson, Arnold Palmer and me!
Women’s Golf should grow at a faster pace: I feel that women's golf is growing steadily in India but a faster rate of growth is the need of the hour. There is still a massive scope of growth but the brighter side is that the current and upcoming generation of women golfers in India have a very promising future. I think with the due support from sponsors, Women's golf can reach greater heights.
On Golf in India: Golf is becoming a very popular sport in the country. From a six-year-old to a sixty-year-old everyone wants to try their hand at this interesting game. With players like Shubhankar Sharma , Anirban Lahiri and Aditi Ashok representing the tricolour at the world stage, the future of Indian golf looks promising. The upcoming generation of golfers is full of talent.
