About me & my business: After finishing my engineering degree from Bangalore University , I worked for Philips Semiconductors and United Micro Electronic Solutions Ltd for a couple of years. I then moved on to become one of the Directors at the Eagleton The Golf Village, Bangalore which was the brainchild of my late father Mr Ashok Kumar Meda.
Eagleton, being the first private Golf resort in the country, has played host to many International and National Golf Events including the first ever Ladies European tour Golf Event "Emaar Indian Ladies Masters". Being the first of its kind, Eagleton was an instant hit with Golfers and corporates as it houses a 18 hole par 72 Championship Golf Course, 9 hole flood-lit executive Golf Course, 132 room ultramodern resort and spa, Golf academy, Sports Infrasturcture and Villas/Residential Enclave spread over 478 acres.
Eagleton Golf Academy has produced the finest talent in Golf including celebrated Golfers like Anirban Lahiri (presently 60th world ranking), Chikka Rangappa, Udayan Maney, Abhishek Jha and many other players who have represented India and continue to make our country proud. Interestingly, it was rated as the best Golf Academy of India by India Golf Awards 2016. Eagleton Golf Course has been consistently rated the top 3 Golf Courses in India by Asia Golf Awards for the last many years.
How did I come up with Eagleton Golf course: Eagleton Golf Resort is the first private golf resort in India and brain child of my late father Mr.Meda Ashok Kumar and under whose vision the award winning project took shape. India did not have any Golf resorts when Eagleton was conceptualised though integrated golf resorts were a huge success in many other countries in South East Asia. Being a perfect mix of golf course residential enclave and a hotel/resort, Eagleton set a successful trend for many other entrepreneurs to follow the great vision and set up golf resorts and golf-centric projects in India. My brother Kiran Kumar Meda and me started a 420 acre golf resort called Eagleburg In Mysore after the success of Eagleton.
What inspired me to take Golf: I have been into various sports in my school days and have been a Golfer since last two decades. I took to Golf instantly when I played it for the first time as it is a sport, which unlike other sports, helps you to compete with any player including a champion and be able to win one or two holes with a champion too. The golf swing itself is described as poetry in motion. Being a gentleman's game which is played by the rules that are mostly self regulated unlike other sports make it very unique. It's the only sport which is unique and tests the mental strength and throws a new challenge at a player on every shot as every golf hole has its own unique design.
Dream Golf moment: My dream golf moment was scoring a hole-in-one on the HSBC Golf Championship at par 3 at the Karnataka Golf Association.
One thing I would like to change about Golf: I would like to remove some redundant rules from the rule book.
My favourite golf ‘totka’: I never wear a black polo shirt on the Golf course.
My dream 4-ball: Anirban Lahiri, Tiger Woods, Justin Thomas and me!
