About Me

About Me

My name is Saptak Talwar. I am currently a Division 1 college golfer at Sacred Heart University.

I started golf at the age of 5 and I honestly do not remember a day since then, that I haven’t played golf. Whether they were early mornings at Delhi Golf Club or traveling all across India to play in national IGU events, my entire childhood memories are filled with golfing ones.

What made me embrace the game of golf?

Right from the get-go, the idea of being by yourself out there with no one to talk to or assist you with anything appealed to me. The game hasn’t always come easy to me; it’s been a long and arduous journey to get to where I am today but I wouldn’t change a thing.

Impact of golf, both in my personal and professional lives

I think golf is one of those games that turns you into a humble person every single day. You could have, the best day-out on the links, be super excited the rest of the day to tee it up the next time, and then do a 180 and shoot a bad number. Which is pretty much what my life is all about. Taking golf shot by shot is just about as hard as taking life day by day. So, not only has golf made me patient (at least more so than before), it has made me realize how important it is to live and cherish the present.

One thing that I would like to change about golf

I think the biggest thing lacking in golf right now is money at the developmental level. It is a highly competitive sport that pays very handsomely at the very top but the smaller tours that feed on to the top of the food chain, do not get much. It’s one of those things that, the more the game grows, the more sponsors and other companies will realize how many more opportunities there are to show your support for the game.

How the game of golf has helped me in networking

Honestly, golf might be the best sport possible for networking. It is played against the golf course, with multiple options for tees, for all age groups, and can be enjoyable for all age groups. It doesn’t get more inclusive than that. It truly is a multi-faceted sport in the sense that it can be treated as recreation, competition, or for networking purposes all in one round.
