About me: My Facebook status reads ‘Rare Species’. I am into the traditional family business - running schools and into manufacturing of chemicals. I have a penchant for Golf but my real passion lies in angling (fishing). I gym out regularly and love to dance. My motto is ‘When you are born you shall die, Don’t die while living, Live after you are dead’.
What inspired me to take up Golf: I belong to a family of Golfers. My father was a child prodigy who has been representing India internationally for the past 50 years, so no two guesses on what inspired me to take up the game.
Dream Golf Moment : To make the final putt on the 18th green and sashay off gallantly as the National Amateur Champion.
Interesting snippets: I restarted Golf after a gap of 17 years in 2015 and currently play to a 5 handicap. It was shocking for me after a gap of 17 years as the whole game of golf had changed. The steel shaft, my club heads, balata balls even my spikes had all become redundant, it was a whole new game out there. I was very fortunate to have Mr Larry Degenhart, then Mr Siddhart Arora and now Mr Monish Bindra who have helped shape my swing. My golfing Mentor and Guide is my Caddy Mr Mukesh Kumar Singh who has been with me for the past 26 years.
One thing I would like to change about Golf : With the immense popularity that Golf has gained in India, I call it the “rich man’s cricket”. Despite this, we do nothing for the welfare of the caddies who are such an integral part of the game and that is something really very unfortunate. I strongly feel that at least on the club level, it should be made mandatory for players to make a substantial contribution towards the upliftment of the caddies. Moreover, they should be given a respectable livelihood by recognizing them as permanent staff of the clubs they are serving. This is the one aspect about this game I would like to change and I am willing to take it forward if there are more like-minded people out there.
My favourite Golf superstition : My ball marker (a 10 Baht coin) and a Rs 100 note which I carry in my wallet which my caddy lost to me.
My dream 4-Ball : I am part of a Golfing group known as ‘The H&H Golfers Fraternity’ and it is truly a treat to play with them. We are fierce competitors and at the same time best of friends on and off the Golf course.
