About me: A 1982 batch officer of the Indian Foreign Service, I had served as the Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan and Singapore. A history enthusiast and Author of two books - Attendant Lords and The People Next Door.
Why led me to play Golf: I always liked watching the game and followed it earnestly. When I was posted in Bhutan in 1992, there was course near to my house and I started playing there. There’s no denying the pull of Golf and the game today helps me to keep stress at bay. Golf gives me pure enjoyment.
Dream Golf moment: When I was playing in Islamabad, Pakistan in 2005, I had a double bogey-free round and I played 6 over. That was quite a memorable one.
Dream 4-ball: Jeev Milkha Singh, Gaganjeet Bhullar, Anirban Lahiri and me. I would really enjoy playing with them.
On how Golf is coming up in India: It’s coming up very well but there are not enough Golf courses. We need many more Golf courses for kids to catch on. I am not talking about the championship courses which can host international tournaments but we need courses where people and kids can play a quick nine hole in 2 hours. That will also make the game attractive.
On issues amateur Golfers face: For weekend amateur players, the idea of spending so much time on uniquely designed championship Golf courses deters them from playing the game. The whole purpose of playing Golf gets defeated then. There’s nothing better if we can change this.
