About me: A hard-core Golf enthusiast, an amateur golfer and a 19-year-old, second-year student at the Columbia University. I’ve been playing Golf for the past 11 years and I am thrilled to represent India at the prestigious Asian Games.
On choosing Golf over Tennis: Interestingly, I used to play tennis when I was around 7 and there was a Golf range near the Tennis court. I was super intrigued by Golf and wanted to try it out. And Voila! I ended up choosing Golf over Tennis. Such is the pull of Golf, you see. Also, my parents always encouraged me and my brother to play a variety of sports. I did play a few sports as a kid but there was nothing like Golf that enticed me. And I’ve never looked back since then.
My Goal: Being able to play and compete at the highest level is definitely my goal. And my ultimate dream to win a Major!
The game is growing: I think the game is growing at a steady pace in India. And players like Shubhankar, Aditi and Anirban making the sport more appealing to the youngsters. I think more Indians doing well and bringing Golf to the spotlight will definitely help increase its popularity in the country.
On making Golf accessible: I see a lot more juniors playing Golf now and that is pretty great. I think more and more Golf courses should make their facilities accessible to them would definitely be a big step in pushing juniors script more success stories.
