Indian American amateur golfer, Aman Gupta opts to represent India at the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship scheduled for November in Dubai.

On an interesting course of events for the Indian Golf Union’s selection committee, 22 years old American amateur golfer of Indian origin, Aman Gupta who had been playing at Oklahoma State University opted to represent India for the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship.

Ranked 72nd on the World Amateur Golf Rankings, Aman Gupta immediately climbed the ladder of being the No 1 Amateur Golfer in India with this decision. As he chose to pursue competitive golf under the Indian flag, it comes as an opportunity for India to bring in a better light to amateur golf until he lives by the plan of turning pro in 2022. 

The semi-finalist at the 2020 U.S. Amateur Championship, Gupta holds pride in being a part of the most successful team in the history of U.S college golf. While Gupta is born in South Carolina, his father, Kapil Gupta, hails from Amritsar while his mother Aradhana is a Mumbaikar. 

Gupta is hoping to represent India at the upcoming Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship (AAC), the premier amateur tournament for the region, with the winner getting invitations to play in The Masters at Augusta National and Open next year.

What remains to be an interesting lookout is whether he will be nominated for the event by the Indian Golf Union or if his entry is automatic based on his Amateur World Ranking being the best of any Indian player.
