Indian golfer Gaganjeet Bhullar exhibited an exceptional performance during the inaugural St. Andrews Bay Championship, securing a commendable fifth place finish. This accomplishment undoubtedly stands out as the highlight of his season, particularly due to his 2-under 70 finish and an impressive total score of 17-under for the entire week.

Golfer Gaganjeet Bhullar
Bhullar, a player with an impressive record of 10 victories on the Asian Tour, positioned himself as a strong contender for the championship title. He demonstrated his golfing prowess by achieving a score of 2-under through the first 10 holes, trailing the leaders by merely one shot. Despite facing a challenging start with an opening bogey, Bhullar made a remarkable recovery by scoring three birdies in the subsequent nine holes. However, his momentum slowed down as he was unable to register any birdies in the final eight holes.
The tournament also witnessed noteworthy participation from other prominent Indian golfers. Ajeetesh Sandhu, with a score of 71, and Anirban Lahiri, carding 70, secured T-8 and T-14 positions respectively. Additionally, notable performances were delivered by Veer Ahlawat and SSP Chawrasia, both of whom tied at T-30. Rahil Gangjee and Viraj Madappa shared the T-50th position, while Rashid Khan concluded at T-66 with a score of 74.
Entering the final day at T-3 following an impressive third round, Bhullar was in contention for his first title since his previous triumph in Indonesia back in August 2022. Despite a slightly shaky start marked by an initial bogey, Bhullar displayed resilience by achieving birdies on the fifth, seventh, and tenth holes. However, his progress tapered off after the tenth hole, ultimately resulting in a fifth-place tie alongside Mito Pereira.
The inaugural St. Andrews Bay Championship not only provided an exhilarating display of golf but also highlighted the emerging talent and potential of Indian golfers on the global stage. These performances bode well for the future of Indian golf, promising exciting developments ahead.
