The Grand Finale of the Thomas Cook Indian Golf League was played today when qualifiers from 5 different cities came together at the Classic Golf Resort for the Grand Finale. After 1556 rounds of golf played over six months on 10 different golf courses in 5 different cities, the Grand Finale saw a high quality field of amateur golfers vying for the honours.

Leading amateur and international player Vikram Rana fired a hat-trick of birdies on the back 9 to shoot a score of 2 under and scored 38 gross stableford points to win the Best Gross Stableford Prize. The same score was shot by young Deepak Sharma, a playing caddy from Noida Golf Course. However, Vikram had a better back 9 score and was declared the winner on the countback.

Lady golfer Madhu Kaya won the Best Stableford score award (scored on 3/4th of original handicap) with a remarkable score of 44 points. Deepak was declared the runner up in this category as he scored 43 points with his handicap.

Talented 10 year old Saurav Rathee from Classic Golf Resort impressed everyone when he shot a round of two over to score 42 stableford points and claimed the Best Junior Prize.

The ladies winner was Mukta Malhotra who narrowly prevailed over Sunita Dutt who had the same score of 40 points. Mukta had a better back 9 and was declared the winner. The winner of the Double Peoria score was Cdr Rohit Garg with 43 stableford points while Dhruv Pal Singh was runner up with 42 points.

Amongst the invited dignitaries, Saran Prasad was the winner with 39 points while Dinesh Thakur was finished Runner Up with a score of 36 points.

Set up by Digraj Golf with an objective to promote the sport though the creation of a nationwide platform in which everyone can come together and compete on beautiful Indian course, without any restrictions, the League received a tremendous response with full house participation in nearly all the 20 qualifying tournaments that were played on some of the finest golf courses in India.

The qualifying tournaments saw one of the most diverse and competitive participation fields in Indian golf and the Grand Finale reflected the diversity when the field of 80 golfers had 15 ladies, 5 juniors, and 4 playing caddies competing with national level golfers, businessmen, entrepreneurs, corporate leaders, etc.

One of the unique elements of the League is the different scoring formats which encourage fair competition amongst all different levels of golfers. In the next edition of the league, 16 cities will be covered and gauging from the response received in the outstation cities during this edition, there is a belief that the Indian Golf League could become the biggest amateur tournament in the country.

The Indian Golf League is supported by various sponsors who enable the creation of this opportunity.
