TaylorMade Penta TP5
Two years ago, TaylorMade Golf introduced the PENTA TP, the first five-layer ball in golf which was quickly embraced by consumers and Tour players worldwide. Feeding off the momentum of 30 global victories including two major championships, the company is raising the bar in golf ball innovation with the new and improved PENTA TP5, an advancement on distance and feel that will appeal to all golfers.
“The PENTA TP5 was created for our tour pros, yet it's a great ball for every level of player,” said John Kawaja, TaylorMade executive vice president. “You don't need to have a fast swing speed to achieve excellent distance with the PENTA TP5. Golfers will also benefit from the same high greenside spin they have become accustomed to with the original PENTA TP.”
Key to the increased performance of the PENTA TP5 is a 28% lower core compression, combined with the company’s unique Progressive Velocity Design. The result is lower driver spin for more distance and improved softer feel. The PENTA TP 5’s faster outer mantle and thin tour-proven cast urethane cover delivers the amount of spin in the scoring zone that a distance ball can't compete with. This gives players with slower swing speeds the added control to get up-and-down more often without sacrificing distance performance.
Nearly every member of TaylorMade's Tour Staff will make the transition to the PENTA TP5 including Dustin Johnson, Jason Day, Sergio Garcia, Martin Kaymer, Darren Clarke, Justin Rose, and more. Both Kaymer and Clarke played the original PENTA TP en route to winning their first Major Championships.
The original PENTA TP took three years to develop as TaylorMade’s golf ball R&D team carefully experimented with different mantle materials, compositions and thicknesses until the ideal combination was defined. Extensive computer modeling, prototype creation, robot testing and player testing went into creating an all-around performing golf that delivers outstanding performance on every key type of shot.
The performance of the PENTA TP5 is rooted in its five-layer construction — cover, outer mantle, middle mantle, inner mantle and core – which is engineered to optimize performance in five key shot categories that skilled players need – driver, long-irons, middle-irons, short-irons and partial wedges.
The soft, fast Inner Mantle, which surrounds the core, promotes soft feel, high launch and low spin off the long-irons for exceptional distance and high, soft-landing flight that helps the ball sit quickly on the green.
The semi-firm and fast Middle Mantle, which surrounds the Inner Mantle promotes mid-launch and mid-spin off the middle irons. Mid-launch promotes control; mid-spin keeps the ball from up-shooting, ballooning and falling short of the target. Positioned just beneath the cover, the outer mantle is the fastest mantle in the ball and is easily compressed by slower swing speeds (ball speeds 120 mph and below), helping those players to generate higher ball speed for increased distance.
TaylorMade Penta TP3
TaylorMade Golf improved its flagship PENTA golf ball franchise with the announcement of the PENTA TP3, a three-piece, tour caliber golf ball designed to increase spin without sacrificing distance.
Similar to the PENTA TP5, the TP3 model has the same tour-proven cast urethane cover material which results in an incredibly soft golf ball that that will perform beautifully from tee to green. It was engineered for the golfer who could benefit from a ball that spins more – specifically on their long and mid-irons.
“Golfers are all different and require variations in their equipment to best suit their games,” said John Kawaja, TaylorMade executive vice president. “The added spin from the TP3 will offer more control for a wider range of golfers while maintaining distance off the tee. Engineering a product with Tour-level performance at a lower price point is a huge plus for the consumer.”
In an effort to produce exceptional feel, maximum speed, and spin control with a three-piece multilayered ball, TaylorMade golf ball engineers had to optimize the core, mantle and cover materials. The PENTA TPs proprietary REACT core technology allows for lower driver spin with added speed to create longer ball flights with the driver. It also increases driver ball speed and lowers driver spin, but on mid and short irons works together with the durable, thin cast urethane cover to create increased spin without sacrificing distance off the tee.
TaylorMade RocketBallz
TaylorMade Golf introduced the new RocketBallz, a three-piece multi-layered golf ball engineered for insane distance and exceptional short game performance. With a name synonymous to its performance, the Rocketballz golf ball rounds out the new franchise which also includes a line-up of drivers, fairways, hybrids and irons.
“The new Rocketballz golf ball is for the golfer who wants to add a little distance and swagger to their game,” said John Kawaja, TaylorMade executive vice president. “Golfers of all abilities will add distance to all facets of their game without having to compromise performance around the greens. RBZ is the ultimate “bomb with bite” golf ball.
The ball speed and distance gains from RocketBallz, comes from a proprietary REACT™ core technology and new SPEEDMANTLE™ for increased velocity and added iron spin for all swing speeds. Combining this REACT core and SPEEDMANTLE technologies together, TaylorMade is able to make golf balls that push the velocity limit and maximize distance.
Great feel with improved spin and control around the greens comes from the company’s proprietary thin and soft IOTHANE™ cover. Coupled with the softer SPEEDMANTLE material this ball will provide increased short game spin with mid and short irons, allowing the ball to bite and hold the greens.
