He shot a four-under 67 to grab the clubhouse lead at the weather-disrupted PGM UMW Championship. Poom seized his opportunities early in the round as he birdied four of his opening six holes at the Impian Golf and Country Club yesterday.

He then mixed three more birdies against three more bogeys to hold a provisional two-shot lead. “I’ve enjoyed my round today.  “The greens are rolling great and I’ve putted really well. “I’m really happy to score seven birdies today,” said Poom, who has enjoyed a good run of form recently.

Thai golfers flexed their muscles on the first day, with Sorachut Hansapiban and Nirun Sae-Ueng carded matching 69s to be tied for second place while Wisut Artjanawat is one shot behind in third place after signing for a 70. Four golfers are tied fifth on 71, including Malaysians Kenneth De Silva and S. Siva Chandran.
