New Delhi, April 4: Arjun Bhati, a name synonymous with dedication and passion in Indian golf, is set to receive the prestigious National Youth Award (NYA) on April 3. The three-time Junior Golf World Champion from Noida will be honored at an official event organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports at Parliament.
Bhati’s journey to this recognition is not just about his triumphs on the golf course but also his selfless contribution during the COVID-19 pandemic. In an extraordinary act of generosity, he sold 102 of his trophies to raise ₹4.3 lakh, which he donated to the PM CARES Fund to support the nation during the crisis. His noble gesture, driven by a deep sense of patriotism, has now earned him one of the highest honors for young Indians.
Speaking about his remarkable decision to sell his hard-earned trophies, Bhati shared, “I wanted to serve the country in any way I could. My grandmother even donated her one-year pension, which inspired me to contribute as well. Beyond just playing golf, I felt this was my way of giving back to the nation.” His act of sacrifice was widely appreciated, even receiving recognition from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, whose words of encouragement further fueled his motivation.

Among the many inspirations in his journey, Bhati credits Indian cricketing icon Virat Kohli for influencing his mindset and approach to the game. In 2019, he had the opportunity to meet Kohli at the Indian Sports Honour event in Mumbai—an experience that left a lasting impact on the young golfer.
“Meeting Virat Kohli was truly inspiring,” Bhati recalled. “His dedication to fitness, discipline, and never-give-up attitude has motivated me to push myself harder. Watching how he prepares for matches, both mentally and physically, made me realize the importance of complete commitment to the sport.”
His admiration for Kohli deepened when he was later honored by the Virat Kohli Foundation in 2023, a recognition that strengthened his belief in hard work and perseverance.

While Bhati’s off-course contributions have been inspiring, his on-course achievements have been equally impressive. He first picked up a golf club at the age of nine, facing initial skepticism from his family due to the sport’s lack of mainstream popularity in India. However, his passion and relentless dedication soon turned him into one of the country’s finest young golfers.
“Golf in India is gaining momentum,” Bhati noted. “With legends like Kapil Dev supporting the sport and organizations like the Golf Federation of India promoting it, the future looks bright. If more Indian golfers perform on global stages, the world will recognize our talent.”
Bhati turned professional three years ago and continues to make waves in the Indian golf circuit.
Bhati also acknowledged the increasing support from the Indian government for sports beyond cricket. He cited Neeraj Chopra’s Olympic gold medal as a defining moment that demonstrated the government’s commitment to nurturing talent across various disciplines.
“Over the last few years, sports in India have seen significant backing. More initiatives, scholarships, and sponsorships are now available, giving young athletes the confidence to pursue their dreams,” he stated. He also praised initiatives like the Fit India Movement, which has helped create awareness about fitness among the youth.
As Bhati prepares to receive the National Youth Award, his story serves as an inspiration not only for aspiring golfers but for all young Indians. His journey reflects the values of perseverance, selflessness, and dedication—an embodiment of how sports can transcend personal success to contribute to the greater good.
For Indian golf enthusiasts and the growing golfing community, Bhati’s recognition highlights the sport’s rising stature in the country. As more young players take up the game and achieve success on the international stage, India’s presence in global golf will continue to strengthen.
With this honor, Arjun Bhati cements his place not only as a promising golfer but as a role model whose actions go beyond the fairways, inspiring the nation with his heart and humanity.
