Travelling with your golf set can sometimes feel more stressful than playing 18 holes under pressure. If you are planning to fly with IndiGo Airlines, here is something every golfer should know before booking their tickets.

A golf bag at an airport check-in counter
IndiGo charges a flat INR 2,500 as sports equipment handling fee for golf bags. This is separate from your regular check-in baggage allowance.

Your golf bag weight counts within the 15kg check-in allowance—plus an extra INR 2,500 handling fee.
Here is a quick example:
Many golfers travel in groups, expecting to balance luggage among themselves. Unfortunately, IndiGo does not allow splitting or pooling baggage.

Group of golfers with luggage/golf bags at the airport
So, for a group of 4 golfers, each carrying golf sets, the additional cost can go as high as INR 10,000 or more.
Most other airlines do not charge such a separate handling fee for golf bags. Many golfers are unaware of IndiGo’s policy until they are at the airport counter, where they have no choice but to pay.
We are not here to criticize the airline. These are their rules, and as travelers, we must follow them. But it is important for golfers to be aware before booking tickets.
So, the next time you are flying with your clubs:
1. Factor in the extra cost.
2. Check if another airline gives you a better deal.
3. Avoid last-minute surprises at the check-in counter.
Because in golf, as in travel, the fewer penalties you take, the better your scorecard looks!
